As of 2022, renewable energy accounts for only 15% of the total energy supply in the ASEAN region, making it difficult to achieve the target of 23% by 2025, according to the latest ASEAN energy outlook report.
Despite progress, the region faces challenges in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and investing in infrastructure for new technologies.
However, if all 10 member states implement their energy transition policies, the target could be reached by 2030.
By 2050, renewable energy could make up 38.1% of the region's energy supply. ASEAN has already achieved 33.6% of renewable energy in installed capacity, approaching its 35% goal by 2025.
